Retrieving the data from the ocean bottom is only half the job done if it comes to buoy based systems. From our experience, it is always an issue having an acoustic communication solution from one supplier providing the subsea data communication link and interfacing this to a satellite transceiver or RF-modem delivered by a second company. And the last thing you need is an additional interface controller or computer in between in order to handle the data transmission.

This was the reason for us to develop our R.COM Satellite & RF Communication Module – a flexible plug and play solution for relaying ocean bottom sensor data to your office desktop via either the Iridium satellite network, a RF modem connection or via GPRS/GSM.

R.COM also contains a Trimble GPS receiver module and provides extensive data and communication logging and management functionality.

Available are configurations with the Iridium 9522B or the 9601SBD transceiver, GPRS data link or Satel Satelline VHF or UHF radio modem link. All of those featuring the same application interface – allowing our customers to select the most suitable configuration without changing the entire system setup.

Data Logging & Interfaces

The R.COM module features an integrated data logger with up to 32GB recording capacity on SDHC cards. Passive or active data acquisition from sensors attached to the three RS232/422 serial interfaces is flexibly configurable.

If necessary, additional interfaces can be provided by connecting one or more of our Mini.Logger boards via the system bus. Interface options include additional serial ports, CAN2.0, USB, inductive links as well as digital & analog I/O ports.

Data Routing & Networking

The R.COM is capable of multinode data communication and supports like our other telemetry and data logging products the simple setup and administration of complex distributed data acquisition networks consisting of a large number of sensors, data recording devices and communication systems.

All of our systems are easily configurable via XML-configuration files stored either locally on the system or transmitted via a communication link.

The R.COM module is available as OEM module (electronics only) or in an IP68 powder coated aluminium housing with IP69K Souriau connectors.
